A fresh development in Pakistan’s auto market hints at the arrival of another electric vehicle (EV). Recently, CCTV footage from Karachi port revealed several compact electric hatchbacks parked alongside an MG ZS EV, sparking strong speculation about an upcoming launch.
The cars in question have been identified as the Wuling Binguo EV, a fully electric subcompact hatchback manufactured by Wuling Motors, part of the SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) joint venture. Interestingly, SGMW is the same group that introduced the MG brand in Pakistan, strengthening assumptions that the Binguo EV may soon join the local lineup.
Binguo EV Popularity Abroad
The Binguo EV has already built a strong presence in international markets. In China, it holds around 5.8% of the battery electric vehicle (BEV) market share, while in Indonesia, it has been officially launched with a starting price of 279 million Indonesian Rupiah (about PKR 4.7 million).
Expected Price in Pakistan
The Wuling Binguo EV is priced very differently across markets. In China, it’s one of the most affordable EVs, starting at just ¥59,800 (around $9,400 or PKR 2.3–3.2 million). But once exported, the price rises sharply due to import duties, taxes, and shipping. In Indonesia, it starts at IDR 279 million (about PKR 4.7 million), while in Thailand and the Philippines, prices often double or even triple compared to China, ranging between $15,000 and $25,000. For Pakistan, estimates suggest around PKR 6–7.5 million. In short, the Binguo is a budget-friendly hatchback in China but moves into the mid-range bracket in other countries.
Why It Matters
Pakistan’s EV sector is gradually gaining momentum, and the possible arrival of the Wuling Binguo EV could further accelerate the shift towards electric mobility. With its compact size, modern design, and proven success abroad, the Binguo EV has the potential to attract urban drivers looking for eco-friendly and cost-efficient alternatives.
While no official launch date has been confirmed yet, the spotted shipment at Karachi port strongly suggests that Pakistan might soon welcome the Wuling Binguo EV to its roads.
